The Most Powerful Truth

This is the word of faith that we preach:  that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. ROMANS 10:8,9 MEV

The Gospel is the simplest of messages. In fact, you could argue that we have complicated the message in our human attempts to simplify it! In other words, we have thought it is too simple so we have made it more complex to help people understand it.

But the Gospel is very simple. It is a simple, basic, fundamental and foundational truth. And believing it is what saves us.

In this chapter the Apostle Paul is talking about the Gospel – the message of faith we are entrusted with.

For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. ” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring good news of good things!” ROMANS 10:13-15 MEV

These verses reiterate that calling upon i.e. invoking the Name of the Lord is what saves us. In a nutshell, confessing Jesus as Lord and believing it is what saves us.

Now, we have invented what we call the Sinner’s Prayer, which is a small prayer about asking Jesus into our hearts and lives. I like this method as a useful means of introducing people to the Christian life but if we are being honest it is more complex than it needs to be. The biblical way to be saved is to declare Jesus is Lord and believe it.

The thing is, we have to believe something very specific about Jesus in order to be saved. It isn’t that Jesus is our Heavenly Friend and Helper. It isn’t even that He is our Saviour. No, the “trigger” for the miracle of regeneration of our spirit man is the solemn affirmation that Jesus is Lord.

This is the very heart of the Gospel, as we will see from a brief study of these verses in Romans chapter 10. Verse 15 is a quote from an Old Testament verse but it misses out something in Romans which we need to see to understand the Gospel. Here it is from Isaiah:

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings good news of happiness, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” ISAIAH 52:7 MEV

The missing phrase in Romans is “Your God reigns!” This is a message to Zion i.e. the people of God. The Gospel – the good news – is that our God reigns! He is on the Throne! He is in control!

Now in the New Testament era we live in we could – and should – say this as “Jesus Christ is Lord.”

THAT is the good news, friends. Just the declaration of that truth can bring someone from death to life, from darkness to light, from the kingdom of satan to the Kingdom of God.

The most powerful truth you can declare to anyone is that Jesus Christ is Lord. It is the dynamic heart of our message. It is the truth that unleashes Kingdom realities into situations. It changes men and women from spiritual lepers to cleansed vessels of the Holy Spirit. It dispels darkness and drives out demonic forces. It brings healing to diseased bodies and peace to troubled circumstances. It releases the manifestation of God’s glory on the earth.

It is the one thing satan will seek to cause you to doubt. It is the supernatural power of God in word form. It is the central truth of New Covenant Christianity, It is the message no demon can utter in sincerity. It is the default message we must not dilute nor stray from in any manner.

Who knows what can happen if we revisit this phrase and make it central to our consciousness as believers?

Why not begin to find out today?

Declare Jesus is Lord over your life, your family, your job, your finances, your possessions, your community, your church, your nation.

Here is something to think about. If you are not seeing evidence of Christ’s Lordship in YOUR life, maybe it is because YOU have to say it much more. The salvation of God in every area comes by confessing His Lordship.

You cannot utter a more powerful truth than that Jesus Christ is Lord over all creation and every created being.
